A special gift

I confess, at times I feel like a complete failure in the area of prayer. A few years after starting Letters from Dad, my wife, Carolyn, threw a big family Father’s Day luncheon at our home.

At the end of the meal my oldest daughter, Holley, stood up and declared “Dad, we didn’t buy you one thing for Father’s Day!” With that she pulled a letter out of her purse and handed it to me with these spoken words… “Dad, I love you. Thank you for all that you have done for me.” Behind Holley were 6 other young adult kids and my 3 year old grandson. Lined up like little ducklings, they each handed me letters of love and blessing.

Do not grow weary

I was so overwhelmed. I could not even open the letters and read them at the table. Another daughter, Rebecca, then stood and said “Dad, Holley lied…we did get you a little gift. We got you this framed picture entitled Spiritual Warfare. It reminds us of the times we would come down stairs and we could hear you praying for us. We hope these letters and this picture will be an encouragement to you.”  As I write these words, my eyes are filled with tears as I remember this moment.

This large picture hangs just above my computer screen in my office. My letters are stored in a large envelope and attached to the back of the frame. At the bottom of the picture are written these words… NEVER. EVER. DISCARD THIS POSTER for it is the Treasure of my Life!

The moral to my story… Never grow weary of praying for your family!

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers” (I Pet. 3.12).
