Humility
As I’ve grown older, I’ve begun to understand more about the meaning and power of prayer. It allows me to get out of the way, and put God in the place where he is best suited, Supreme Lordship. And while I am praying for many things, I find that it’s more impactful on me than anything else. It starts with humility.
The most powerful books on prayer for me are Power Through Prayer, The Power of Prayer, and The Essentials of Prayer, each written by E. M. Bounds. He’s no ‘Johnny come lately’ as his lifespan was from 1835 to 1913. He actually wrote 11 books, nine of which focused on the subject of prayer. Totally recommend them.
Falling away
If you read the statistics today, the American church is losing millions of members/attendees each year for the past decade or so. Covid was a major contributor. Young people are not feeling they are being heard and are not in lockstep with the doctrines of the church.
For some time I’ve been beseeching God to bring a revival to the church in America through godly fatherhood. Just one example of the impact of fathers, their children and the church. It is reported that when the father attends church with their children, with or without the mother, 70% +/- of the children continue attending as adults; only 30% +/- if they go with their mother only. I’m not making this up! Fathers are critical to the church. And church leaders, wouldn’t it be beneficial to pour into these men in whatever way it would ensure their servant leadership in their home. Strong fathers, strong churches.
Fathers matter
Abiding Fathers is committed to the task of training and equipping fathers and would-be-fathers with the discipleship tools to be the dad…God wants them to be. I say, if revival is going to come, and I believe it will, it will be through dedicated born-again dads!
The Lord had me write a short book on II Chronicles 7.14 a few years back. Revival of Repentance. We would be well served to meditate on what God said to Israel then, and is saying to the church today. Join me in praying, believing! “The effective prayer of a righteous person has great power.” (James 5.16) Exercise His power!!
