One nation under God

Freedom and justice for all

One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. If you were starting a new nation, would this be a good mission statement and purpose? How does it get any better for living here on earth with other people and accomplishing God’s will for yours and their lives? If we look behind these words, it is obvious that the founders of America were leaving nations that were not under God’s authority, therefore, divided; and you can definitely believe that they did not have liberty and justice for everyone. So, that is what they were creating in the power and wisdom of Almighty God. And that’s just what they did. Not easily, nor overnight nor without bloodshed, but eventually successful. Two and a half centuries later, most Americans are still pursuing that vision.

Let us not forget, these were human beings with all their failures, just like ours, who were following God’s design for a special nation in this world. Free to worship him, have families, create jobs, have freedom of speech, laws which ensured order, ability to protect oneself from an overbearing government if that were to happen and so much more. Freedom and justice were at the forefront.

Lest we think differently, our country is not one nation, under Allah; one nation, under Karl Marx, or one nation under atheism. These are enemies of the God who created America. Freedom and justice for all is not anywhere in their doctrine.

Train and discipline your children

There are organized and well-funded groups that are seeking to influence your children, from an early age. Why am I sharing this with you? Because, dads, you must train and disciple your children while they are in your home. Josh McDowell wrote many years ago; “If you don’t send your children to college as a missionary for Christ, they will become a mission field for everything”. He was way ahead of his time.

Why Christ? Because he is the One who had the vision for America well before and while he was on that cross. The answer for our nation and for us individually is and always has been Jesus. Not another administration, another ideology, and another religion. This is what Jesus said. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (Jn. 8.36). Martin Luther King’s dream for America and beyond was empowered by this truth.

Live out the gospel

Dads, your overridingly most important role is to disciple your children for the gospel of Jesus Christ. And Believers in America, we are to live out the gospel daily to expose the darkness of unbelief to the light of Jesus. Pray, witness, disciple—all through the power, presence, and person of the Holy Spirit. More than saving our nation, you will be saving the next generation from eternal condemnation.

“We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions. Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright. Save, Lord. May the King answer us when we call” (Psa. 20.4-9).

The word I love most in the Pledge is “indivisible”! One with the Creator God. May it forever be.
