Humility
I hope you are not reading this devotional just to find a way how to get rich quick. If so, save your two minutes and apply them elsewhere. The American Dream has attracted many to reach for the upper rung of the ladder, financially. Few attain it, and most through very hard work, intelligent decisions, and bending the rules along the way. Some will tell you they lost many things more precious along the way.
But with God it seems to be right the opposite and the peace that accompanies it far outweighs the financial rewards. This Proverb would not be the slogan for the American Dream. Humility…and fear of the Lord…are counter to most wealth driven people. How many financial advisors would start with this advice? Few, if any. What the Spirit is saying is not just limited to riches, but the whole package.
Honor
Riches…honor…life are attainable when we humbly seek God’s counsel, have a servant’s heart, and plan our life around God’s principles. Which means we admit we don’t know it all, which leads us to dive into his word daily for direction in every area of our lives. It’s not just financial riches, but spiritual as well. Dads, caring for your family and discipling them in the ways of the Lord adds richness to life, now and for eternity. Your children and grandchildren will honor you with their words and with their lives.
Jesus promised that he came to give his followers ‘life and more abundantly’. That begins now as we humbly follow him. The Spirit says this: “I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation” (Psa. 91.15,16 ESV). Folks, that’s rich!!
