I invite you to read this Psalm in total. Why is God laughing? Let’s look together.
Today, it is abundantly clear what he is seeing.
- Nations raging
- Peoples plotting in vain
- Kings and rulers coming together against Jesus
- Saying, “let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us”
What we are observing is nation upon nation, governments, false religions, hate groups, etc., bringing persecution to the Believer in Jesus. It’s happening in our own country as never before in my lifetime. So why is God laughing? Because he has already established his kingdom through his Son, Jesus, and he’s made the nations his heritage and the ends of the earth his possession. And eventually, he’s going to break his enemies with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
Why am I sharing this in a devotional? Because we all look at the world and see how it appears to be roaring out of control, and maybe start wondering; is God really in control, is he really there, is he bigger than the nations and the governments and all of our enemies? Scripture tells us that “vengeance is mine says the Lord. I will repay.” So, by faith, we stand strong and secure in Christ.
He concludes with a warning to the kings and rulers to be wise and be warned. But for you and me who are in Christ he ends with this. “Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”
As the saying goes, “he who laughs last, laughs loudest”.
