Reclaiming fatherhood
Jonathan Habashy is on a family mission trip in Rwanda, Africa. It just so happens that it is the base of operations for Abiding Fathers for all of Africa. Our two directors, Bosco and Derrick, had the pleasure of meeting with Jonathan and his wife last week. Jonathan is serving as our Donor Care Consultant. He has gotten to experience firsthand a small part of the mission in Rwanda. He reported that during their conversation, Bosco made an incredible statement the other day: “Fatherlessness is a national fact in Rwanda.”
Wow.
Jonathan then added his own insightful and helpful perspective:
“Because of tragic geopolitical and cultural shifts happening around the world (mass genocide, cultural erosion of traditional home roles, the demonic delusion of gender politics in the free world, etc.), the family is under attack like never before. Literally. Fatherhood is an afterthought, and the urgent necessity of fathers is being utterly discarded. This reality is putting an entire generation at risk, and that’s just the beginning. What follows could bring an incalculable darkness to cultures across our globe. To redeem fathers is to redeem families. To transform a man in his role of fatherhood (to align with the biblical perspective) is to renew and transform families for generations to come. This is the very hope of the gospel of Jesus, as biblical fatherhood puts Christ at the absolute center of every family. THIS is the sole reason for the existence of Abiding Fathers. We are reclaiming fatherhood and equipping a new generation of dads to impact their children’s lives the way God intended!”

Bosco and Derrick get it; Jonathan gets it!! One only has to study Psalm 78.1-8 to see the impact of fathers fulfilling their role from God’s viewpoint. Remember, God does not miss a trick. He is aware of every detail in his creation. He makes observations to people like the Psalmist to inform us and to warn us. God calls fathers to disciple their children through the word of God. There are consequences to not. In these verses you see a faithful father who will impact three and four generations. What a dad does today with his wife and children, will have an incredible ripple effect for generations to come. The opposite is also true.
The father tells his children, who tells the coming generation, even the children yet unborn who will arise and tell his children. Tell them what? Glorious deeds of the Lord and his might and the wonders that he has done. Why? So that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God but keep his commandments. Simply put, to disciple these generations with the gospel of Jesus Christ!
Biblical fatherhood discipleship
God has blessed Abiding Fathers and Padre de Corazon with the message of biblical fatherhood discipleship. Thousands of facilitators, fathers, would-be fathers, pastors and bishops are embracing the message and starting to apply it in their families, churches, and in the marketplace, even prisons, here and abroad.
Once God starts a movement, not even the gates of hell can prevail against it. He’s going to use people across the globe to fulfill Malachi 4.6a. Just think, he might even use you. Wouldn’t that be great!!
