Foundation problems
The lady who just bought the house next to us required a foundation company to correct and stabilize her foundation. Minor, but yet necessary. Foundations are a real problem in parts of the Dallas area. Seems the soil has never fully stabilized, so special designs are required. I have heard of house foundations splitting down the middle. In our area, architects design pier and beam rather than a slab due to the soil movement. I’ve only experienced minor earthquake tremors, but the major ones are incredibly destructive.
We all are aware of the scripture addressing building your house foundation on a rock as opposed to sand. And the consequences when storms come and beat against each house. But here, the Psalmist is addressing the question; ‘suppose the foundations of our society, nation, the church, your personal life, are destroyed’. What then? Seems like everything around you is crumbling, all the solid institutions you have always come to trust.
Foundation secured
You can be a solid believer caught in the storm of societal or cultural decay, with seemingly no answer to what is going on. Do you run and hide or trust in God’s constantly available security? Look at the Psalmist’s confidence in God. His friends are telling him to flee like a bird. He answers them. “The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven; his eyes behold, his eyelids test the children of men.” Nothing escapes him. He has the best seat in the world. If he allowed it to come into your life, he will give you the grace to pass the test.
For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright. If you are in Christ, you are safe from foundational destruction.
