The armor of God

Our granddaughter, Sarah Peyton, posted this on her Instagram last week. I believed it worthy of sharing with all of you. Take your time to meditate on each of the eight areas that she has addressed. Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your heart for the Lord.

 1. Head/Mind: Father, I put on the helmet of salvation (Eph. 6:17) that I may be able to discern what is good and evil. May I set my mind on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent (Phil. 4:8) and things that are above (Col. 3:2).

 2. Eyes: Your word says my eyes are the lamp to my body (Mt. 6:22) so may I not set before my eyes anything worthless (Psa. 101:3). “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things” (Psa. 119:18). May my eyes be set on you, not looking to the right or the left, but open to seeing you in new ways. Be Thou My Vision!

 3. Ears: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). Oh Lord, give me ears to hear You (Mt. 11:15) and pay attention (Mark 4:24). Make me quick to hear (James 1:19), and may I hear a word behind me saying “This is the way, walk in it”, when I turn to the right or left (Isaiah 30:21). Thank you for hearing my prayers, Father.

 4. Mouth: “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth” (Psa. 34:1). Keep my tongue from evil (Psa. 34:13) and may everything I say be for the building up (Eph. 4:29). Let me be slow to speak and slow to anger (James 1:19), not allowing gossip or slander to leave my lips, but, instead, rejoicing always, praying continually, and giving thanks (1 Thess. 5:16-17). Give me words when I open my mouth, that I may boldly proclaim the gospel (Eph. 6:19).

 5. Heart/Chest: “Create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psa. 51:10). I fasten on the belt of truth and breastplate of righteousness (Eph. 6:14) that my heart may be guarded from evil. I seek you first, with my whole heart (Psa 119:10, Jer. 29:13, Mt. 6:33). Tune my heart to Your heart, and lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil (Mt. 6:13). Help me to trust You with all my heart (Prov 3:5).

 6. Stomach: I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psa. 139:15). My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). I know that nothing of this world will satisfy me because Your Word says: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (Mt. 5:6). May I nourish and care for the body you have given me, and may all that I put in it be pleasing to you.

 7. Hands: Father, I am your workmanship, created to do good works (Eph. 2:10) all for the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31). “Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us” (Psa. 90:17). I take up the shield of faith and sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:16-17). May my hands be quick to serve and used as a vessel for Your Kingdom.

 8. Feet: “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psa. 119:105). “Ponder the path of your feet, then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your feet away from evil” (Prov. 4:26-27). Father, establish my steps (Prov. 16:9), that I may walk in obedience to Your will. May I humbly serve as Christ came to serve (Mt. 20:28), knowing that in the Lord, my labor is not in vain (1 Cor. 15:58). Guide me, Good Shepherd, and may my feet bring the good news to others (Rom. 10:15, Isaiah 52.7).
