As we see some products disappearing from the shelves recently, deliveries taking longer, and prices dramatically increasing, what are we to think? We read and hear of delays in ports and terminals, and raw materials diminishing. All supposedly leading to hyper-inflation, here in America and around the globe. This is not a new phenomenon, just the most recent. Is any of this contrived by greedy providers, a result of the pandemic, people not filling the plentiful jobs that are available, what? And can you trust the news today? Whatever the cause, it is a reason for concern, not panic.<\/p>\n
This leads us to focus on whom are we trusting during uncertain times? Governments, politicians, business and industry leaders, economists, the church, who? I suggest we look at God\u2019s word and his promises. They have endured thousands of years and from generation to generation. Paul wrote to the Philippians as they were helping him with his ministry financially. He said\u00a0\u201cAnd my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>(4.19). They were being faithful and trusting God for their daily means and Paul wanted them to be confident in God\u2019s provisions.<\/p>\n We also see at the end of Matthew 6 these words of Jesus. He is exhorting the believers to not seek after things such as food, clothing and shelter as unbelievers do, but turn our hearts and minds to the One who is the giver of every good and perfect gift.\u00a0\u201cBut seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(vs. 33). He then concludes with this.\u00a0\u201cTherefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(vs. 34). The formula for living confidently one day at a time!<\/p>\n Jesus is the Author of life, abundant and eternal; so, who would you think might be the best (only) choice to trust?\u00a0\u201cThe thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Jn. 10.10). The Lord is very aware, long before we even realize negative circumstances. So, are we looking at our circumstances and the economic issues through a human lens, or are we looking by faith to the One that can deliver?\u00a0\u201clooking to Jesus, the founder and perfector of our faith\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Heb. 12.2a).<\/p>\n \u201cThe Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>(Phil. 4.6,7).<\/p>\n Jesus Christ is Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. He will not allow any of us to suffer more than we are able. Listen to this promise from the Spirit through Peter.\u00a0\u201cAnd after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever.
