Fathers,<\/p>\n

What does a man do when he\u2019s stuck at home with no sports to watch and there are little minions running around the living room where a cup of milk was just spilled? Why is it that, as fathers, we want to get through the day or weekend only to repeat the cycle? I believe God desires to build our families for generations to come (see Genesis 17). We live in a culture where we think we can accomplish more apart from each other, which is a lie that is widely accepted today.<\/p>\n

At this time you might know more about building your company\u2019s profit than your wife or kid’s hearts, but there is hope when we turn to the biblical model for building our families generationally. While we fathers might be at work pushing the mission of our organization forward, we can also push the mission of our family forward at the same time and with the same intentionality.<\/p>\n

Let me encourage you to work with your bride to establish a mission statement for your family that you can hang in your house. If organizations have mission statements, shouldn\u2019t the home also? In all reality, we should be looking to the home for ideas rather than businesses. It is God\u2019s charge to do this, and without a clear direction for your family (Genesis 1:26-28), it could be detrimental to the home and the generations to follow.<\/p>\n

As a father of four, having a mission statement<\/a> has encouraged me to lead our family as well as strive to keep our family focused on what is most important. The world begs for our time, money, and energy, and unfortunately that won\u2019t mean anything in eternity.<\/p>\n
