“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.”

Psalm 24.1

 Who God is

Do you believe this, really believe it? So much so that it impacts your life daily in countless ways? How you view your possessions, who and whose you are, how I relate to those around me, your schedules and plans, you name it. We so easily forget and go along as if we were really in charge. I believe that is why God continues to send us subtle and amazing reminders of who he is.

This sunset appeared in the western sky a month or so ago. I was so intrigued by its color and magnificence. I remember standing there in awe, praising God for his creation. I did not want it to go away. But always knowing there would always be something tomorrow. God is glorious, more than we can imagine, and he gives us glimpses through, among other things, his creation. Psalm 19.1-4 is a strong message.

Majesty

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”

So, what might God be thinking as he continues to witness to his majesty and power in all that has been created? The mountain ranges, rivers and streams, the meadows, sunsets and sunrises, oceans and seas, waterfalls, a sandy beach, trees, birds, animals, snow, wind and rain…where do we stop? I find it so interesting how God challenged Job as recorded in chapters 38-41. Read them. He reminds Job in detail about the intricate details of his creation, and asked Job if he were there when all of it was being accomplished. Were you, was I? A resounding NO!

Amazing love

While his creation is for our pleasure and as reminders, it is much more about God’s love for his creatures, you and me. How so? In Romans 1.20 we see God’s heart. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” Does this not show that God was not only the Creator of all, but he made sure that every human being would be able to see him and actually worship him by viewing and experiencing the creation.

We should be reminded that God’s love for us is so deep and profound, he wants no one to perish but live and worship him forever. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3.9).

And we all know just how far he went to ensure the opportunity to repent and receive salvation. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (Jn. 3.16). God did not spare anything in his creation and certainly not in our redemption. Glory be to God!!
