Glory to God
So, what do you find yourself boasting about? Try these for starters—your cool kids, awesome spouse, great job, comfortable home, that summer home or ranch, low golf handicap, college degree(s), health, your spiritual gifts, knowledge of scripture, church attendance, elder board, the mission trips, what? I am sure you can think of more. I know I can. Boast in the KJV is glory. So many times we knowingly or unknowingly try to usurp the glory belonging only to the Lord.
This is Holy week for Christians, and you are probably reading this on Maundy Thursday, maybe Good Friday. Seems so calm and peaceful to even say those two events. But when one looks deeply into both, they are neither of those. Jesus is first in the Garden of Gethsemane after dining with his disciples. A few disciples kick back and snooze, while Jesus agonizes with his Father for hours over what he is to face on Friday. His obedient decision allows us today to enjoy the blessings of abundant and eternal life. Do you feel like boasting yet?
Boast in Jesus
Then comes Friday, and the crucifixion on the cross. Beaten, mocked, shamed, nailed and speared, killed. Feeling boastful anymore? Anything you or I have, or are, is directly attributable to that cross. That’s why Paul could say, God forbid….!!! Jesus humbled himself to the point of death; but God…has now highly exalted him to his right hand! And one day every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of the Father. Now that’s something to boast about. Let’s not wait till that day…let’s do it now, every day!
