Division in America
Sometime back, I heard a gentleman speak on the issue of division in America. He said, correctly, that in the past, America has been united when there’s an outside enemy, such as during the world wars. He said the problem today is that we are our enemy. Therefore there is division. Personally, in my lifetime I have never seen so much disagreement among the populace of America. Much of it has been driven by political correctness and political agendas.
Possibly the last time that this country was so divided was prior to and during the Civil War. Though the country may not have fully recovered, it has remained strong and united when it needed to be. God has seen to that. But now, today, there are so many issues that are dividing us, such as abortion, gender, race, education, marriage, politics, and socialism versus capitalism. The list goes on.
Unite against fatherlessness
Psalm 133 makes it clear how God views unity. “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity“. He goes on to describe it. Even our churches are divided over many things, most of which are not central to the gospel. So, what might be one enemy that Americans could unite against, especially the church? I suggest that it is fatherlessness. In so many ways it is destroying families and the future generations of our nation. We don’t have to look very far to see the consequences. They are dire. My 50 years of teaching weekly in prisons, juvenile detention centers and homeless shelters has clearly revealed to me the devastation of fatherlessness.
The absentee father negatively impacts the family, which in turn impacts the church, and our nation. I and we in Abiding Fathers and Padre de Corazón are calling, first, the church in America, to step up and begin to seriously engage fathers and would be fathers, grandfathers of all race, creed or color. Now is the time, as never before in our country’s history to engage this enemy, who I believe to be very satanic and a spiritual battle for the hearts, minds and souls of men, women and children, in this generation and many to come.
Victory is assured
Since it is a spiritual battle as well as a physical and emotional one, we must stand on the truth of the word of God. Jesus is our foundation, our cornerstone. He alone, will command, us, his troops. Victory is assured. It won’t be easy, but it will be so amazing to see Malachi 4.6a fulfilled in our lifetime. “And he will turn the hearts of fathers to the children and the hearts of children to their fathers.” Do you believe God, through us, can and will accomplish this? I do!! All we need to do is to enlist, complete our basic training and go to battle for the hearts and minds of fathers, their families and our nation.
What does that look like? Repent, pray, volunteer, engage, get equipped, disciple, mobilize your church and denomination, financially support and speak up for fatherhood whenever God gives you the opportunity. Together, by God’s grace, we can! Suit up in the full armor of God and run toward the fire!
