A family restored

In Rwanda, Bosco and Derrick have discipled seventy men over the past months through the From Faith to Faith fatherhood program. There have been many victories in these men’s lives. Derrick recently shared the following testimony of one of their participants. We wanted to pass this on to encourage all of us in this journey of restored fatherhood.

“One of the Abiding Fathers’ victories we share and celebrate today is a marriage restored by God through the small Abiding Fathers’ group, where one man was going thru a difficult moment of divorce. Before joining the program, he thought that he was okay, and he blamed his wife for most of the mistakes that made him separate from her.

As he started reading the book, sharing his journey with the fellow fathers, and through praying for each other, he realized that he also missed or lacked some attributes that made him an absent father to his family.

He decided to start working on himself to become an abiding father and to apply the attributes of Love to his children. He was a changed father, and the children started recognizing the change, and later on, even his wife saw that. 

Today, we thank God that the family is back together and now all working together to be a better family, and the journey to abide is still on.

We give thanks to God, who restores the broken marriages and builds them up again. 

Glory be to our God.”

Out of darkness

Can you imagine the joy within this restored family? God worked through the discipleship message to convict a man’s heart, and he had the humility and boldness to admit his mistakes and seek forgiveness. This reminded me of the truths in 1 John 1.

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin… if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Vss. 5-9 NIV

God’s truth brought this husband and father out of his darkness and restored him to light.
