Disciple
Never before in my lifetime have I seen such a need for dads and moms to step up to the plate and disciple their children. Society at large is out of control. Kids are self-destructing and harming others as well. I truly believe God’s wisdom is not being used and taught in most homes, even Christian families. Therefore, the children are getting their moral or immoral values from their peers, social media and even teachers in many schools of every level.
As parents, you are their first line trainers and modelers of moral integrity. Proverbs emphasizes training in the home as a means of moral protection. It will prepare the young person against the temptations from immoral people and the end which results. Young minds are inquisitive, always searching for truth, and they are easily influenced, good or bad. All the godly attributes of an abiding father, and engaged mother, are scattered throughout Proverbs.
Guide and counsel
Loving, praying, modeling, mentoring, teaching, listening, disciplining and blessing are tenets of this Book of Wisdom. All of these provide for and protect your children. “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it” (Prov. 22.6 NIV).
I challenge you to end 2021 and begin 2022 with a mindset of moral and spiritual discipleship. It won’t happen by osmosis; it requires a dedication of your time and talents. God holds us dads (and moms) accountable for discipling our children. You are not their Savior: Jesus is that! But you are their guide and counselor. They are depending on you. God’s blessing on your journey of discipleship.
