Future generations
Have you ever seriously thought about what you are believing and doing today is going to impact three and four generations to come? May I say, good or bad! Well, it does. As a dad and a mother. I want us to look closely at Psalm 78. 4-7.
“We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation of the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.”
What you are imparting into your children (and others God leads your way) will abide in them all the days of their lives. And based on the Psalm, there is the strongest of probabilities that it will abide in your grandchildren and great grandchildren, maybe even beyond. You want to get a great return on your investment in your business and financial life, I am sure. Those are not necessarily eternal, but primarily earthly. But many of you reinvest the fruits of your labor into kingdom work. That also is creating multi-generational returns.
Discipleship
How much more critical for your future generations is your discipleship for the gospel of Jesus Christ. John says…” I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (3 Jn. 1.4) Especially fathers, since you are the priest in your home. Time is not just money, it is more so, love. Setting priorities helps you utilize your time more profitably, giving you more opportunities to be present, abiding, in your family’s life.
What legacy are you possibly wanting to leave? The best and most eternal is the legacy you leave in them. Imagine your latter years. You look back over them which you cannot recall, as they are in your past. Will the thoughts be joyful or sorrowful? You can assure yourself that they will be joyful by what you, by the grace of God, determine to do now and from here forward. Your family is the greatest earthly treasure God has provided you, so invest in them, heavily!!
And you will be pleased as they rejoice over your life when you depart. But the best part is, you will hear the Lord say, WELL DONE!!! Invest now, it’s never too late!
