What’s it gonna be? God or government? Seems today that one appears to be overriding the other. The political process is dominating the scene. So much focus is over spending money that we don’t have. Trying to please voters for the purpose of getting reelected. It’s happening on both sides of the aisle. It’s hard to discern truth since most of the reporting is done from a slanted viewpoint. But that’s not the real issue. The elephant in the room is, who are we trusting for our peace of mind, our sanity, our future, and even our present? I have to admit that the Body of Christ, the church here in America has taken a backseat and is being influenced more by the governmental mandates and secular culture than by the word of God. Now, I’ve said it, and I truly believe it.

This nation was formed around the word of God by men and women of faith. By doing so, they were invoking the power of God through the word of God and they were relying more on him than on policies being formed by what level of government they were under. Governments, as hard as they try, cannot provide basic human needs in a fallen sinful world. Most deal with the consequences wherein God deals with the inner man and his primary issue, the need for a Lord and Savior who is all powerful, very present and extremely omniscient. God has ordained governments and kingships but as in most cases, they eventually turn away from him and turn to their own wisdom and devices. This is what I see in America today.

So, in the next few paragraphs, I want to address reasons we should trust God completely as his promises are true and all-powerful.

“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things (food, clothing and shelter) will be added to you.” Mt. 6.33

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1.8,9

‘Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Heb. 13.5,6

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isa. 41.10

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10.9-11

This is only five of thousands of power-filled promises. Do you think a government of any nature can provide the peace, security, confidence, and assurance that these provide? Not only are they temporal while we are here on earth, but they are eternal. No one can assure you of that except the Lord. John 3.16,17 makes it all possible and very clear. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” If he went so far as to give you his Son sacrificially, how much more will he give you, those who trust in him?

I say, pray for our leaders, but trust only in Almighty God!
