Have a blessed day

This weekend I was invited to speak to 30+ men/dads at the Church at Briargate in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was the kickoff for their annual Rally addressing the Abiding Fathers’ curriculum they would be studying this year. My role was to provide an overview of the study.

During the day of the event, I walked outside my hotel to experience the beautiful day and the spectacular views of the mountains in the background. A little different from the DFW area. Another gentleman and I were staring at the skies watching a parachuter drift to earth. He said he had done that last year. He had served in the armed services and had always wanted to do a jump. His wife encouraged him to do it on his 50th birthday. He said it was spectacular. As he was leaving, he said “have a blessed day”. I answered that most people who use the word blessed are a follower of Jesus Christ. He immediately responded that he had been saved by grace and was a believer.

He got in his truck and as he was driving off he stopped and rolled down the window. He thanked me for my encouragement. I noticed he had a Texas A&M hat on and that brought about more discussion. He and his wife just moved there three years ago. He asked me what I was doing here and that opened the door to Abiding Fathers. Which, of course, led to much more discussion and his overall response was that it was so critical in today’s world. And as he departed, we wished each other a blessed day.

Godly Fatherhood

Why am I telling you this? Because, when I got back into my room preparing for the presentation that night, I was overwhelmed with the fact that I was there to help train and equip 30+ dads, and at the same time, there was a man in a hotel parking lot that agreed that godly fatherhood is so necessary today. We are seeing a movement of God that four years ago was pretty well a Dallas ministry. But four short years later, even in the midst of a Covid pandemic, God is taking this discipleship ministry across various parts of the world, his world.

He is purposely engaging the hearts and minds of fathers, changing cultures and families. I believe with all my heart he is restoring the family through fatherhood discipleship to fulfill Genesis 1.28. What God starts, he finishes! It took Jesus’ work on the cross to ensure it.

‘And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it,
and have dominion on the earth.”’

Spread the Word

He now wants us to fulfill it by following Psalm 78.4-7. Thirty at a time or one at a time.

“We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.”
