For me, one of the most impatient men ever, I really have a major problem with waiting. At traffic lights, food service, grocery lines, waiting in a doctor’s office, a person late for our appointment. Actually, anything that keeps me from moving forward as I believe I should. I hope no one reading this deals with the same issue. Or call me, and we can vent together.
And just think, patience is one of the ‘fruit’ of the Spirit. God overcoming this weakness in my life will one day bring him much glory. I’m waiting!! God is so patient with his creatures, you and me. Because he desires that no one would perish outside his Son. He puts up with, endures so much from us. But more than all the issues we face, waiting for the eventual return of Jesus is the most difficult. With so many evils in the world, our hope is that God will, sooner than later, make everything new.
The Spirit deals with this through Peter. He reminds us that with God one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. We live in the crucible of time. So, we wait, for him to act. And act, he will. Are you waiting and ready for this?
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus dissolved, what sort of people ought we to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God” 3.10,11a.
Looks like something worth waiting for, hopefully, more patiently. How about you?
